Hey all,
I have an employee who, after much coaching by myself, HR, and other directors is still not able to effectively manage his tasks. I work for a city government and am walkign down the very formal, very drawn out disciplinary plan which makes this whole thing terrible for both sides. All that being said, do any of you fine folks know of a coaching service that might be able to help my employee correct his behavior? I was thinking if the coach could meet with me to discuss the issues and then meet with my direct and help train them on what he is not understanding.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Robby

Hey! That sounds tough. I get that disciplinary stuff can be a real drag. Have you tried looking into local coaching services or even online platforms? Sometimes, a fresh set of eyes can really help. A personalized approach might make a difference. Maybe even check if there's someone in your network who could recommend a coach they’ve had success with.
Career coaches abundant, but...
That's a hard situation. Before you find a coach for your direct... Does he acknowledge he's not meeting expectations and does he want to change that? Do you know whether there's an underlying issue he's not forthcoming about, or if he just does not want to do the work of changing his behavior. If the issue is along those lines, there's less a chance an outside person will be able to be effective. A coach was hired for me, gosh, probably 14 years ago. All of our work was surface level. I was term'd 18 months later. It wasn't her fault - to be clear. Where I needed help had nothing to do with the job, but it was affecting my work. A career, performance or other coach might be what your direct needs - but I recommend knowing precisely what the problem is before bringing in help.
Looking forward to updates and outcomes, if you can share. We're all doing the best we can with the experiences and resources we have.
Much kindness!
