Anyone in Melbourne interested in a meet up?

Submitted by Dale Ipsen on Monday January 17th, 2011 5:24 pm

I've had a couple of people message me privately.
We've set the tentitive date of the 18th February 2011 after work.  Probably somewhere in the CBD.
Reply here or private message if you want my contact details and we'll get it organised.

OK, admission to minor puffery - Mark won't be there in person but as good as.
Thanks to his generosity, I've just had confirmed from Mark Horstman that he will be available to call in via Skype for 30 minutes or so and chat with us live during the meetup!
Mark is keen to support the Australian scene given that it's not been possible to arrange a conference Downunder as yet.
More details to come. In the mean time, if you're interested and can make a conference room somewhere in the CBD available for the meeting that would be very helpful.
Don't hesitate to DM me if you have questions or ideas.
Thanks

I'd love to provide a space, but we're undergoing some major renovations right now. Maybe a future meetup :-D
Cheers!

Not a "proper" manager yet -- just kicked off a migration from software engineer to project manager -- but I'd love to come along and get involved.

I really need to hop on a Virgin Blue for an evening!

Submitted by Peter Westley on Monday January 17th, 2011 10:35 pm

Andrew,
There are no rules about actually being a manager! Anyway, it's just as much career tools as manager tools.
Either way we'd love to see you there.

Tim,
It goes without saying we'd love to see you here in Melbourne if you can find the excuse - AND you may not have to.
Assuming it all goes well, Mark has indicated he'd do the same for another one (say Sydney - I'm assuming you're in Sydney) at some stage.
In which case, we might need an organiser for the Sydney meetup :-)

I've messaged everyone on the forum with my contact details...  Still looking for a venue at this stage - with access to Skype now I see is a requirement.  Great to hear we will have Mark "on the line"

Well, i cannot allow myself to miss this one. So count me in.

I'm afraid dear Peter that I'm in the bit of Australia that's not in a main city. Manager Tools Newcastle is still in its infancy!

Submitted by AndrewLighten on Tuesday January 18th, 2011 7:37 pm

Peter; I live well outside Melbourne (around 200km away) but I'll be here for the day. I guess Newcastle is a little further.
(Totally offtopic: Had my first business trip to Newcastle for 20 years a couple of months back. You guys rock -- the waterfront is now totally awesome. Really enjoyed spending 3 days there.)

Submitted by Mark Horstman on Tuesday January 18th, 2011 11:24 pm

Peter thought to ask me, and I'm ready to call in and join the group.  I'll probably say a few words about our crappy results regarding coming down, and then open it up for questions, about managing, careers, or manager tools if you insist.
Looking forward to it!
Mark

Due to the tyranny of distance, Dale and I are working on me dialling in on this one.

Update:
I've had word via Wendii that we have an offer of somewhere to meet. I'm in the process of trying to get that confirmed.

I will follow up with a pm as well, but I just wanted to mention that I also hope to make this catch-up. Having said that, its the evening before I fly to europe for a holiday so I'm not sure if I will be able to make it.
Even if I can't attend, I would like to say thanks for organising it, and also for keeping Melbourne on the radar for Mark and Mike.

Submitted by Peter Westley on Wednesday February 9th, 2011 4:49 am

Hi All,
I'm working with Wendii to get a note put in the next newsletter to try and spread the word a little more. Keep an eye out for it.
Be sure and let your MT friends know - especially if they don't get to the forums regularly.
Thinking_aloud: It will be great if you can make it, sorry the timing's not perfect. Either way, stay in touch and we'll see you at the next one for sure.
Dale: what's the current count?
Peter

Only 6 of us so far...   There must be more out there!
Respectfully,

Submitted by Dominic Eales on Tuesday February 15th, 2011 2:50 pm

Thanks Dale and Peter for organising this and putting the word out.

I am committed to working at a festival on Friday evening so it isn't possible for me to attend this time. That said, I'd be very interested in coming to the next MT meet up in Melbourne.

I hope you all enjoy it.

Any chance of getting some more details, like start time?
I'd need to come down from the Peninsula, so a bit of a commute.
