I just had my yearly performance evaluation and my boss shared some of my team's feedback with me. I rolled out O3's shortly after my last evaluation (around September-October of 2009). I wanted to share some of the feedback I got:
--He always asks if there anything else I need. I get a quick response when I need assistance. (Note: This is how I end all my O3's)
--He meets with us once a week to help with employee morale. I didn't trust him when he first started doing these meetings. I am learning to trust him.
--(This one from someone that doesn't even work for me) Jared seems to meet with his folks on a pretty regular basis and they all appear to respect him. I haven't heard any negative grumblings and that is a good thing (in today's environment especially). He has a very good team over there and they are doing a great job! That says a great deal about Jared's leadership skills.
--I think the implementation of One on One's that we do with Jared are an excellent resource for him to develop others. He will often discuss things that he believes I can improve on as well as uses that time to grow more acquainted with me as staff. He is conscience of what types of phrases to best use and comes across as genuinely concerned about where we may be heading.
This was really nice for me to hear, knowing that they are valuing the one on ones as much as I am. I have really noticed a difference in the morale and my relationship with my directs has never been better.

Well done
Hi Jared,
thanks for sharing this, and well done for implementing one on ones. It sounds like you're doing a great job!

Good for you
As much as we disciples of MT are intellectually aware of the benefits of O3s, and from our own perspectives we perceive the improvement in communication with our directs, hearing this kind of validation, so on point, from the mouths of your directs must be tremendously rewarding.
Congratulations - you are obviously doing a good job.
Warm fuzzy
Thanks for sharing this Jared, that is super to be able to hear.
I too received a warm fuzzy feeling this week for O3s I had previously done.
I had changed positions a few months back, but my previous directs were still located in the same building. While hurrying past one of my previous directs in the hall, they asked where I was going in such a hurry. I stated I was concerned about being late for an O3. They responded with, "Man, I really miss those one-on-ones."
Thanks, Jared. A lot of
Thanks, Jared. A lot of folk new to Manager Tools come to the forums for validation (or lack thereof) of the methods we discuss on the podcasts. Stories like yours go a long ways in getting the skeptics to take action. We (and they) appreciate it greatly.
