Looking for some guidance on declining an interview based upon the location of the position.
During the initial recruiter interview I learned the position is in a part of the country that I am not interested in moving. I would like to keep the line of communication open with this recruiter, but refocusing their view upon opportunities in different geographies.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you listened to the "Location Preference" podcast on Career Tools?

Yes, but...
John,
Yes I have, but Texas really isn't in the "for the right opportunity" category for me and my family. Too far away from extended family relationships and ice fishing.
I want to keep the relationship open, but redirect to different geography.
You always have good advice, thanks.
Ken
This is covered...
M&M do discuss how to handle the situation when you simply cannot move outside a certain area (they mention an ill parent or special needs child, for examples).
You state your prefence, clearly. From page 6 of the shownotes: "We are totally fine with that. There’s nothing wrong with saying, “hey, my preference is probably a little tight for you, but I’ve got to stay in Barcelona, orParis, or New York.” Great."
Recognize that this limits your opportunities. And the recruiter will respect you for it. If they have opportunities there, you'll get a call. If they don't you won't.
