Hi Friends
Im a student at the university of Aarhus in Denmark. Im the chairman of the local student union. We have 14 part time employees and i would like to use One-on-ones.
My problem is - all but one, only gets paid to work 10 hours a week. The half hour one-on-one would take op ALOT of they time, and would prevent them from spending that time working.
My question is - How would you use the one on one tool with part time employees? would bi-weekly meetings work? how about 15 min. meetings?
best regards
Svend

Part Time Job, Full Time Benefit
Svend,
I encountered this same situation before. The way I presented it to my boss was with the many reasons O3's are needed. I found those reasons in the Manager-Tools podcasts on this subject. I also stated my case around it giving our part time employees a full time benefit. No matter what they do here or where they go from here, they will be exponentially better than when they started work here because of the influence O3's have.
I can say that the 15 minute O3 has worked for me. 5 minutes for them, 5 minutes for me and then 5 minutes about their development. But you don't want to use that for long. The time frame should grow.
Best Regards,
Davis (not the davis in the forums though :)
Think outside the O3
If there's an effective ROI on the O3's do them. If the suggestion above doesn't work, perhaps consider reverting to the original format of 30 minutes and doing them once every two weeks.
Svend- We often recommend
Svend-
We often recommend every other week for part time folks, and it works well. We also know many managers that get more out of the other 91/2 hours by spending a full 30 minutes each week. Whichever works better for you is the way to go.
