We have an employee who has been with us for 12 years and is well versed in RPG to extract data from our AS400 (now ISeries).
We, my IT manager and I, wish for him to learn new skills so as to develop methods of delivering reports to users with minimal interaction required.
Any ideas on suggested resources to get him there will be much appreciated.
thanks

Training. Not knowing what reporting tools, BI portal, and such you plan to use I can't be more specific. Keeping the direct involved in the overarching plans of your company is important.

Please review the coaching casts. They worked for me. By the way, M&M have edited the approach slightly but the one's in the casts are a great place to start.
Specifics are hard to give, as tlhausmann points out.

I agree with Tool - the place to start is with the coaching casts. I think they'll give you the framework you're looking for.
My favorite part about the M-T approach this is that by considering this as an opportunity for coaching, it keeps it from spinning up into something often called training. A lot of managers don't consider "training" within their skillset, and they'll start looking for other organizational resources (like HR, training dept, etc), and then nothing happens.
Keeping it coaching keeps it within your sphere of influence - and M/M's approach is actionable as hell...
