Mike and Mark; Frequently when I hear your podcasts I hear all of these gems of knowledge, like the "Horstman's Laws of Delegating" or "Horstman's Law of Hiring" to quote a few. Is there any place or any plans to make all of these laws available? I would love to tap into this as a reference and yet another way to learn from you all, and would be worth its weight in gold.

I wonder if they'll be in Mark's book... though I don't know the ETA for the book...

Attendees of the Chicago Manager Tools conference received a boxed set. Is it a fair assumption that a boxed set is part of the package for MT conference attendees?

I believe so. We got it in San Antonio.

As did those of us in the first conference in DC.

Yes, it is a standard part of the conference materials. We have thought about selling them (they're not cheap to produce - those that get them generally think of them as fairly sharp)...but haven't.

Further, there are two new laws to be added for our next printing.

9: Embrace Reality
10: Avoiding Failure Is Not Seeking Success

Hmm.... Guess that means I'm going to have to come to another conference to make sure I have the full set :)

Thanks for the compilation! In my Franklin Covey bookmark (the one that is supposed to hold the weekly goals, or "Sharpen the Saw" as FC calls it), I keep my best wisdom to keep me focused on the big picture...

Right now it contains 5 Essentials from a Jack Welch article I read
1. Control your destiny or someone else will
2. Face Reality as it is, not as you wish it was
3. Be candid with everyone
4. Don't manage, lead
5. Change before you have to
6. If you don't have a competitive edge, don't compete

I'm adding Horstman's Laws today!

Thanks!
Jenny

I love numbers 9 and 10! They really go hand-in-hand - those who can't embrace reality tend to spend an awful lot of time avoiding failure as well.

I can't tell you how many times my father told me that I will learn far more from my failures than I will from my successes - and he was right. The message was clear - seek success but do not fear failure. This is why I tell my Dad each time I talk to him that the older I get, the smarter he gets!
