I just saw a job opening I want to pursue. It's in a Division in which I am on rather good terms with two people who are one-level above the position I seek. I think it's a very good assumption that these two people would be key stakeholders to my future position, should I get hired.
Is it a good idea to talk to them about this position? I'm thinking along the lines of the Jump Starting Internal Customer Relationships podcasts, except I'd be doing the jumping before I get the position. I'll have to modify the protocol some, and the goals would be to see how my future branch serves them now and how they would like us to serve them better.
I have no idea how the interview will be conducted, so I have no way of knowing whether these two people would sit on any interviewing panel.
Thanks for your help.

I Did It Anyway
I spoke this morning with one of the women I know who is one-level above the position I seek, and I spoke to her on two points: 1) Whether she had more information on what the position entails, and 2) how I might best be able to serve her area should I get the position.
I believe I met both objectives. She gave me a little more information about the background leading up to this position, and I have some ideas of what my main challenges might be. I also learned how I could best serve her area in that position. She seemed genuinely interested that I was throwing my hat into the ring.
Now to send her a thank you note.

Sorry I didn't respond more quickly. I regret the delay.
Sounds like things are going well: well done!
