Follow up after sending a resume

Hope I'm not repeating a question that's already been asked/answered, but what is the general consensus about following up after sending a resume?

I'm inclined to think there should be a follow up - but not sure after how long, if there is a preferred communication method (phone call/email or..) and what should the content actually be?

Thanks

Generally speaking, 7-10 calendar days is reasonable.  The method and content depends on the interaction you've had with people in the hiring chain.  Always be professional.  You can ask if they have any questions about your resume, and/or if they have any timeframe in mind for interviews.
  Good luck!

Thanks for the advice.  I did follow up by email and telephone - worked fine.
