Wasn't sure where to post this. Was on two different flights and had two different experiences. The first flight I could listen to downloaded casts. On the second the app said I had to be connected to the internet even though I could see multiple casts downloaded and acessible in the Downloaded Podscasts section. The flights were on different days though close together (out and back trips).
There isn't any metering of playing downloaded casts is there?

Usually, downloaded episodes should play regardless of internet connection, but tech can be weird. I’d recommend checking for app updates or restarting it next time. Just in case, I always download a few extra episodes beforehand, just to be safe!
