Team One's Shared Version Of Reality - Part 2

Executives have a special responsibility to understand not only what is going on inside their organization, but outside as well. But the world outside is too big for any one executive to claim total knowledge and understanding. That's why executive teams share their knowledge frequently, even constantly, to help the team of leaders develop a more accurate, shared version of reality.

An executive's responsibilities includes gaining a much greater understanding of the world outside of the organization than is required of managers and individual contributors. This is very hard to do - the world outside your org is much more complex, varied, and more rapidly changing than the internal workings of your firm. This means that no one person can truly understand it. For leaders to gain a more complete picture of their environment, they must share their individual version of reality with their fellow execs to help the entire organization gain a shared version of reality.
